About
A native Californian, and fifth generation San Franciscan, Michael studied biochemistry at UC Berkeley. After a brief filtration with academic research, he moved to wine in 2006. Growing restless to launch his own project, he founded the Ultramarine sparkling wine label with his partners in 2008, then in 2013 the Cruse Wine Co., a small winery and custom crush facility in Petaluma. In 2016 Michael Cruse was the San Francisco Chronicle’s Winemaker of the Year. His focus remains on making uniquely Californian wines from the Northern part of the state often with bubbles.
